Many of our clients in the SSEG programme ask us, “How does it actually work?” Essentially, the SSEG programme in Port Elizabeth allows you to feed excess power back into the grid at specific time slots. These time slots are peak, standard, and off-peak periods.
The high season is typically from June to August. Whatever energy you generate during these periods (e.g., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), you can use later during peak hours, such as from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends.
The idea behind this is that you are feeding back into the grid. This is essentially your typical generation profile where you have off-peak time, peak-time, and standard time. Essentially, what you generate earns a credit; however, that credit can only be used in specific time slots.
At that point, roughly 60% of it is credited against your account. To receive better value, you can utilise your battery storage to offset peak periods and recharge at lower rates.
